Pocket nappies

Example:  Happy Heinys PUL outer pocket nappies

  • Often like a cover and liner joined, although this isn’t always the case  - usually a PUL outer and a microfleece or suedecloth inner
  • Needs something absorbent stuffed inside it – often a folded piece of hemp or a booster of some sort, but it can be flannelette flats, terry flats, washers/hand towels, or anything absorbent
  • Often quite trim and are easy to use - once stuffed it is just like using an AIO, so great for when you’re out or when bub is with babysitters
  • The advantage over AIOs is that they dry quickly because you can take out the stuffing material, and often even unfold it
  • You can also adjust the amount of stuffing depending on the absorbency you need

Other pocket nappies can be made of two layers of hemp or cotton, or an outer layer of hemp and an inner layer of suedecloth/microfleece.  This makes the pocket nappy more like a fitted nappy (see next section).  The advantage over a fitted nappy is that you can adjust the amount of stuffing and it is quick to dry.  It will still need a cover, and depending on the inner layer, also a liner.
