About half of the front yard has now been dug up - its very time consuming.  I'm wondering whether to do the rest with "no dig" methods if I can do it without it being obvious that the two different methods have been used (due to the no-dig section being higher).  Its all a bit of a mess for now though!

Today I planted seeds in three garden beds.

1.  Against the wall.  I dug up an extra section here, because I want tomatoes against the wall and I had a punnet of cherry tomatoes that are past good eating.  So I squashed them into the garden at the back.  I had some saved seeds from previous basil plants, which I sprinkled in next, and some saved seeds from previous marigolds, so they went in too.  Although I did have tomatoes at the back, then basil, then marigolds, I wanted the bed crowded and a bit mixed up, so there is a lot of overlap.  Hope it all grows!  There were a lot of seeds in that punnet of tomatoes.  Although I have packets of tomato seeds, I've found the best tomato plants grow out of compost, so I'm hoping that just putting the tomatoes in the ground will work.  They were organic cherry tomatoes of course!

You can also see pumpkin seedlings that have grown up here out of the compost that I buried in this garden bed.  I'm just deciding where to replant these - they'll spread too much for this spot, so I'm hoping in the bush at the edge of the back yard will get enough sun.  The lettuces from last month have survived nicely and also three tomato plants that I replanted from the old house, although they're a bit hard to see at this stage.

2.  The large bed near the path towards the back.  You can see pics of this bed and the next one in the top picture.  This has been planted with

And I'm sure other seeds that I've forgotten now!

3.  The large bed near the path towards the front.  This has been planted with

And as above, I'm sure there were other seeds too.

I also put in a heap of carrot seeds in the little bed that already has wilting carrots (can only see two left now) - the seeds are in the front and back of this bed.  And put eggplant seeds just hidden in amongst other plants in various other beds.

All of the seeds are from Green Harvest or other organic/heritage seeds, so hopefully, when they go to seed sometime down the track I should get more plants out of them.  I know that it would probably be better to start lots of these in pots, but I just never have any luck with this, whereas I do have lots of luck with plants coming up from others that have gone to seed, so I just figured that I'd put in lots of seeds and hope for the best.  In a month, if there are empty patches, I'll either put more seeds or some seedlings in to fill the gaps.  I don't expect it all to come up.

The plants from last month are doing okay - generally better than expected.  A few are going to seed which is good, so hopefully I'll end up with heaps more lettuce, spinach and parsley from that.  Lots of grass still to remove!

This is the garden bed in front of the house.

And the one on the other side of the front stairs.  I didn't put much in here because as you can see - lots of bamboo coming up spread from next door, so I'm guessing we might have to dig out the roots.  There is quite a bit of borage that you can see here, some tansy at the back, and right on the edge at the left front a tomato plant.

The carrot bed at the front, and lots of lettuce, spinach, perennial spinach and other bits and pieces in the other beds.  Still have some treated pine edging to remove too.
