Dance of the Vegetable Patch

Sunday, 29 April to Friday, 4 May 2007

Sunday, 29 April

Breakfast:

  • Homemade crumpets (at about 11 am)

Lunch:

  • Tofu filo triangles
  • Crumpet

Afternoon tea:

  • Choc chip bikky (1 only!)

Dinner:

  • Tofu filo triangles
  • Corn on the cob
  • Apples and bananas

Comments:

Can you tell I was having a nice, lazy day???  I had to use up the tofu filo triangles (all the ones I made yesterday were eaten, but I had leftover filling and pastry so made up the rest today), and the kids both love them.  They only had one each at lunch time as there was lots of crumpet eating happening very close to lunch time for our very late breakfast.  The crumpets were very easy to make and really delicious - definitely worth making from scratch.

Have to start buying more corn - it went down well.  And they both eat apples after dinner very well.

Monday, 30 April

Breakfast:

  • Porridge/cereal

Snack taken to school:

  • Banana

Lunch taken to school:

  • Tofu filo triangles (wont give them any more for a while after this though!)
  • Corn wheels
  • Cut up apple (with peel)
  • A tiny bit of leftover icing for dipping apple (to try and get it eaten even with peel)
  • Choc chip bikky

Snack:

  • Homemade crumpets - after much begging from the kids in the morning

Dinner:

  • Pasta with tomato sauce and cheese

Comments:

Planned on making a slow cooker soup, but just didn't have time to get it started in the morning, and still feeling a bit lazy about cooking after the weekend anyway, so we just had packet pasta and jar sauce (both organic) for dinner.

Very little apple was eaten from lunch, and what was eaten was bitten out of the skin - she's very stubborn!  There was only half a filo triangle left besides that though.

Tuesday, 1 May

Breakfast:

  • Crumpets

Snack taken to school:

  • Mushy apple (ie pureed pure apple with a little water)

Lunch taken to school:

  • Leftover pasta
  • Carrot and cheese flowers
  • Tinned peaches
  • A couple of leftover tiny filo triangles (I know I said "no more", but these were just tiny)

Dinner:

  • Fried rice with corn, tofu and carrot flowers

Comments:

At lunch, all the pasta was eaten and a tiny bit of each of the rest (I think no peaches though).  This is very frustrating, as she decided she absolutely loved tinned peaches over the school holidays, but I haven't been able to get her to eat them since!  If only she'd just have another little try.

Dinner - both kids were happy to eat the tofu, my son was happy to eat the rice, and the rest needed a lot of convincing to get "just 5 spoonfuls" in.  Again, very frustrating, as they both like corn, tofu and rice separately, and I did say they could leave the carrot if they'd eat the rest (there was very little carrot in there actually).

Wednesday, 2 May

Breakfast:

  • Rice with milk and sugar (planned for everyone, but the kids wouldn't eat it, so they had toast)

Snack taken to school/preschool:

  • Banana

Lunch taken to school:

  • Rice faces
  • Fried tofu cubes
  • Corn
  • Mushy apple
  • Tiny bikkies

Lunch taken to preschool:

  • Cheese sandwich (although he's been asking for lunches like his sister's)

Dinner:

  • Take away!!!  Had soccer practice in the afternoon and ended up coming home late.

Comments:

Just a very busy day - hence the take away for dinner.

Thursday, 3 May

Breakfast:

  • Toast

Snack taken to school/preschool:

  • Banana

Lunch taken to school:

  • Sandwich with vege loaf (fake devon) in fingers
  • Bean balls with tomato sauce
  • Cut up apple
  • Tiny bikkies

Lunch taken to preschool:

  • Rice faces
  • Bean balls with tomato sauce

Dinner:

  • Pasta - just the usual

Comments:

Had planned on bean balls, corn and broccoli/cauli au gratin for dinner, but again, took the easy way out.  I'm pregnant and very tired - that's my excuse anyway.

Gave my son the similar style lunch to his sister after he asked for it.  They both ate some of their lunch.  My daughter wasn't keen on the sandwich as I'd put a little cream cheese (vegan) on it to hold it all together (she isn't keen on butter), although she loves the veg loaf.  I hadn't bought it before, but she tasted devon elsewhere and keeps asking for it.  This stuff tastes quite a bit like devon which I just can't bring myself to buy.
